January saw some tremendous changes in the garden. We have bitten the bullet and had the majority of our poplar trees cut down. They were getting very, very tall, and we wanted to ensure that they caused no problems. Our ancient Czar plum tree also had to go.
Several poplars have been left as totem poles - for the benefit of the great spotted woodpeckers who visit us every day.
There is much more light in the meadow.and we have decided to introduce a few dwarf fruit trees. They have arrived today so will soon be in situ.
We chose our NGS open days last August, not expecting such a cold winter. It's less than six weeks to our first open day, so we'll have to keep our fingers crossed.
